Peace the Passeth All Understanding

The prophet Isaiah foretold of a future peace in Christ: Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.  Paul associates peace with the difference between life and death: Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. He also speaks of the kingdom of God with reference to peace: Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Jesus spoke of peace in contrast to the things of the world: John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. He further insures us that there is peace in tribulation: John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Paul knew that peace would be a part of one's life that was centered on Christ: Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. It is our duty to seek: 1Pe.3:11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

The psalmist David referred to peace as a blessing from the Lord: Psalms 29:11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. Ensue it.

Paul further informs us that peace is obtained by Faith:

Romans 5:1 THEREFORE being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
