Pastor Appreciation Day

Oct. 3rd, 2006 Brother Bill Moseley

“Wherefore he saith, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:8, 11, 12) According to the measure of this gift of pasturing, pastors are men responsible in part to the church to insure the perfecting of the saints, to provide for the ministering, and for the edifying of the body of Christ. This is a great responsibility.

Not many men called of God into the ministry are willing to take on this responsibility. It takes a special dedication, patience, love, and concern for those in his care. The pastor is always on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to be at the side of a dying saint, to provide words of comfort at the passing of a loved one, to minister the word of God to the congregation in his care on Sunday morning, to urge all under his voice to accept Christ as their savior, and to council those troubled with the cares of life. A pastor is not ashamed to uphold God’s truths, to obey His commands faithfully, to set the example for those closest to him. The pastor is there to direct the affairs of the church, and to urge the church to reach out to all in behalf of Christ.

This Pastor Appreciation Day is a time to show your love for your pastor. Let him know how much you appreciate the work he does. Encourage him with a word of kindness. Hug his neck. Remember to pray for him so that he may be in the center of God’s will. Pray for God to give him the strength needed to meet the demands set before him as your pastor. Pray for him all year long. He is always praying for you. Pray for his family.
