Glory to God Sept. 17th 2006 Brother Lonnie Francis Some men become proud and insolent because they ride a fine horse, wear a feather in their hat or are dressed in a fine suit of clothes. Who does not see the folly of this? If there be any glory in such things, the glory belongs to the horse, the bird and the tailor. -St. Francis de Sales. The quote is over 500 years old but still rings true. Glory belongs to the provider, not the user. So how do we go about this? How are we to glorify the provider? The first step is to recognize the provider. When you eat at a restaurant where does the food come from? Does the hostess prepare it? Or the waiter/waitress? No, the food comes from someone behind the scenes. Someone you don’t see. Only the provider’s handy work is visible. During a “good” service if someone’s song touches you, or a sermon inspires you, did the singer or preacher provide the blessing? No, once again the provider is unseen but His handy work is evident. Day in and day out God is our provider. Provider of life, provider of peace, provider of sustenance, provider of salvation, provider of hope. Then we show our appreciation and this can be done in many different ways. Prayer is a good place to start. During your pray time thank God for all he does for you and don’t just say it -mean it. Share your testimony with others. Let them know you don’t take credit for anything, but willfully glorify God in all things. It’s not the shout in church that endears us to God but it’s the reason for the shout. We truly glorify God when the action in our lives reflects what is in our heart. When we believe His principals enough, trust His teaching enough, love Him enough to let all of these be prominent in our lives. When someone looks at us and no longer sees the man or woman born to this world but sees God living in us- well that is when we truly bring glory to God. |
