Memorial Day May 27, 2007 Bro. Lonnie Francis At this time each year, our lives are filled with past memories and events of years gone by. For many of us we remember this day as Decoration Day. A time when the flower arrangements were made at home using wire, crate paper and other materials. A day when all families would go to their grave sites, and honor their deceased love ones. When we see a picture, or recall an event of the past, it resurrects that person or event in our memory, and we are permitted to relive that part of life once again. We have cities, towns, streets, buildings, rivers, programs, and the list goes on, to remember our people and to recognize their contribution to society. Memorial day is a day set aside to honor those that fought and died in our Armed Forces, protecting this country and keeping us free. The graves of brave soldiers are scattered all over the world, as a reminder that freedom is not free. One of the most tragic reminders of Memorial Day is that some of our people had to be sacrificed, so that the rest of us could live. These memories will continue to be a powerful influence in our lives. I think it appropriate to honor all our love ones on this special day, because some of the most important battles are fought each day right here at home, as we stand for what is right in the site of God. Memorial day begin with the Passover and the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt, after years of bondage. These people were delivered by the mighty hand of God, and they were to remember their last night in Egypt. One of the most important events for a child of God is Communion Service, or a Memorial Service in honor of Jesus, remembering, as we drink the wine, It represents His blood that was shed for us, and as we eat the bread, representing His broken body, that was broken for us. May we keep in memory those that labored and loved us, especially our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus taught His disciples, that as often as they took the Lord’s supper, it would show the His death until He comes. |
