"The things which are impossible with men

are possible with God"

March 30, 2008 Bro. Bill Moseley

Taken from the book of Luke, 18th chapter and the 27th verse, is the completion of the lesson Jesus gives us concerning the entrance into the Kingdom of God and eternal life. With man, the things, which seem impossible, are possible with God.

When a certain ruler asked Jesus about the requirements for eternal life, he went away sorrowful. For he was very rich, and could not part with his wealth to follow Christ as instructed by our Lord. It’s not the keeping of the law, or for that matter, the observance of a set of rituals that provides our access to the Kingdom of God, but our willingness to accept Jesus as Lord and Master. The rich ruler could do many things he had set within his own mind to achieve the goal of eternal life, but to give up his wealth and follow this man called Christ, was out of the question.

Jesus told Nicodemus “ye must be born again.” To Nicodemus, this was another task which seemed impossible, but Jesus clarified the statement saying, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:5-6) The new birth is spiritual in nature. It is a process available from God, preformed by God. This is a process that permits us to put away the old way of life. We were born physically in trespasses and sin, a way of life impossible within ourselves to give up. But in Christ Jesus, all things are possible. It requires turning our back on the things of this world and following after the Lord. “Who then can be saved” the disciples asked. (Luke 18:26) Jesus makes this possible. “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:14-16)
