75 Year Anniversary March 26th 2005 Adam K. Dotson Togetherness. That’s what anniversaries celebrate. A wedding anniversary for example shows a man andwoman have willfully stuck together for a year. Good times came and went, bad times cropped up, and 365 days later you have each other. This anniversary marks 75 years the Leckieville Church has pressed on toward the prize. Each year has been filled with memories. We have shouted, cried, mourned, rejoiced, prayed, and persevered.
Love. That’s why we can celebrate anniversaries. Love is what aides us in overcoming obstacles. Love weeds out the bitter roots of strife that would divide and overcome us. In church, we learn to love everyone, not just the people in our congregation. In the book of Matthew Jesus tells us For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Gods’ love toward us is unconditional. That is a concept hard to understand. No matter what you do, God loves you. He does not love the sin you commit, nor does he condone it. He loves you in spite of it. The church here at Leckieville exists today due to that kind of love.
We gather today for the very same reason the first service was held in this community. The message has not changed, just the people delivering it. The tears still flow in the congregation, just from different eyes. Hands still raise to praise God, songs of Zion still flow up to the throne and sinners are saved by the grace of God. 75 years have passed, and until we find ourselves in that city whose builder and maker is God, we will gracefully serve Him. Keep these two scriptures in mind in your daily walk, and if you do not know Jesus as Savior –invite Him in and see for yourself why we celebrate.
Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Hebrews 10:23-25 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
I am only one, but I am one; I cannot do everything, but I can do something, what I can do, I ought to do...and what I ought to do, by God's grace, I will do. |
