Founded on the Rock, Jesus Christ 03-12-06 Brother Bill Moseley Psalms 40:2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” I’m always amazed every time I read or see the news on TV showing a number of houses falling into the sea because of the sand they were built on. When the U S Corps of Engineers built the flood walls around Williamson and Matewan, they didn’t build on the sand, the muck and mire of the river basin. The drove pilling down to the solid rock, and established the walls on the pilings.. The scriptures warn against building on the sand. (Matthew 7:26-27) “And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” But for those that build upon the rock, (Matthew 7:25) “And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.“ Jesus is that rock. He is our foundation. We have been lifted up out of the pit, out of the miry clay and established on the rock, Christ Jesus. Now when the storms of life come, this house will not be destroyed. No surer foundation can be built than that which is Jesus Christ. If we are not building on Christ, we are building on sinking sand. The foundation of our faith has to be in Jesus Christ. After the death of King David, Solomon was anointed king and his first duty was the construction of a temple. The foundation was of first importance (1 Kings 5:17) “And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.” The temple was built to stand for many, many years, so no expense was too great for the foundation. We are told in the scriptures that we are the house of God. God no longer dwells in temples made by hand, but dwells in men and women who have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. The foundation of this temple is (Ephesians 2:20) .... of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;” (1 Corinthians 3:11) “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Be sure you have built upon the rock, Jesus Christ. No other foundation will with stand the test of time. No other foundation is acceptable. When the storms of life come, is your house secure in Christ? |
