The Kingdom of God July 30,2006 Brother Bill Moseley “They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.” (Psalms 145:11-13) Several things can be noted here of the Kingdom of God: its glory, its power, the mighty acts of the kingdom, its glorious majesty, its dominion and its everlasting nature. The kingdoms of this world are just that. They are glorious for riches, for extent of territory, for victories in war, for liberty in time of peace, for commerce, and many other things, but the kingdom of God excels them all for it is not of this world. In Jesus’ own words: “My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” (John 18:36) Not of this world, untouchable by man and his doctrines, yet near at hand, eternal which means it shall never be destroyed, yet not left to other people. Daniel foretold of one coming with a kingdom reaching out to all peoples, nations, and tongues with an everlasting dominion. (Da. 7:13, 14) Micah foresaw a kingdom in which all peoples of the world would come unto, a kingdom in which all would experience peace, learn of God‘s ways, and be provided with the necessities required to maintain that experience. (Mic. 4:1-7) This kingdom embraces all believers in Christ united together in one body, the church, through the Holy Spirit. Since we have a kingdom we must have a king. When the Jews brought Jesus to Pilate, Jesus was asked; “Art thou a king then?” Jesus answered; “Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world.” We become a part of this glorious kingdom with the new birth Jesus spoke of to Nicodemus. Jesus is that king. To him we owe our allegiance. He made it possible with his crucifixion on the cross of Calvary, his death, burial and resurrection on that third day, and his ascension to heaven where he sits on the right hand of God making intersession for us. Thanks be to Christ for this glorious kingdom we now possess. |
