FREEDOM 06/29/08 Bro. Lonnie Francis This Friday, our great nation will celebrate it’s freedom, "Independence Day." It is a day set aside to celebrate our freedom as Americans, and to reflect upon what it means, and what it cost for us to be free men and women. Those who have trusted in Jesus Christ have a greater freedom to celebrate, freedom from bondage to sin, and from a debt that we could never pay. As believers, we are called to walk in the freedom that is ours through the Spirit of God, and to remember the cost of that freedom. Freedom comes with a price, our nation’s freedom did not come cheap. An astounding number of American soldiers have given their lives in various wars since the birth of our nation in the pursuit and defense of freedom. Our Spiritual Freedom came through the death of one Man, Jesus Christ. "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:" IPeter. 1:18,19. As children of God, we are called to walk as freemen in the Spirit. Colossians 2:6-7 "Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." Walking as freemen is only possible through the Spirit of God. To fail to walk in the freedom of the Spirit is to become in the bondage of sin once again. These people who first came to Amercia were hardended and determinded people. These were people who decided that it was worth any risk to come to a place where Religious Freedom could be practiced. I thank God for those who were willing to sacrifice all, for the cause of Christ, and their fellow men. |
