INDEPENDENCE

Tomorrow we will celebrate our nation’s independence. A single day set aside to honor and celebrate many years of effort, dedication, and courage. A day that celebrates a new beginning. July 4th is not the day freedom was won, it is not the day the Declaration of Independence was signed, it is not the day the revolution began. Since 1776 our nation has grown from the 13 original colonies to 50 great states. In the process there were many days of anguish and turmoil. Many battles against many enemies. Many days it seemed as though the nation may not survive. We even fought ourselves for a period of time. The United States has survived, and so tomorrow we will celebrate. Ask anyone what is celebrated on July 4th and you will likely receive an answer of freedom or independence.

Christianity holds dear the same two principals we will celebrate tomorrow. Freedom from the rule of sin and Independence from the mortal, earthly nature of our own bodies. We battle endlessly against the enemy of sin, knowing the ultimate victory was won at Calvary. Christ’s sacrifice gave us the winning weapon- His Blood. With His Blood we can defeat the enemy in every battle. Because of His Blood we can celebrate freedom from the curse of sin. Without His Blood we must surrender to the fact these bodies will die. Because of His Blood we can celebrate our soul is Independent of the body. When death separates body and soul we will truly be able to day that it is our day of Independence.

Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
