The Mighty God 01-28-07 Bro. Bill Moseley “What a mighty God we serve! What a might God we serve! Reigning now above on his throne of love, What a might God we serve!” These are the words written by Clara M. Brooks and are from the chorus of the church hymn of the title “What a Mighty God We Serve.” The words of that hymn reveal even more of the one we serve: “Our Father’s wondrous works we see in the earth and sea and sky; He rules o’er all in majesty, from his royal throne on high. The raging winds and waves are calm, when he says to them, “Be still”; the heavens praise him in a psalm, and the angels do his will. He maketh worlds by his command, weighs the mountains great and high; He metes the waters in his hand, spans the lofty, starlit sky. Our God, to save from sin’s control, gave his Son a sacrifice; His grace, a bounding in the soul, makes the earth a paradise.” Yes, “What a Mighty God we Serve.” I can’t imagine life without God’s control. We are as children needing someone to guide us in the right direction, needing someone to help us make the right decisions. I’m told you have to make children do the lessons in school. They would rather play and talk to one another ignoring the teacher every chance they can. That is why a teacher must continuously monitor their actions, insuring they’re learning. This requires going up and down the rows of seats making sure the child is listening, paying attention, taking notes, keeping up with the lesson. Our father is like that. He sacrificed his own son, and left the Holy Spirit to lead us, direct us, chastise us, and make us follow his instructions. What a mighty God. He knows our weaknesses, our strengths. He knows the direction in which we need to be going, and will provide the instruction if we are willing to be obedient, willing to listen, willing to pay attention, and willing to commit to memory every word from the mighty God we serve. |
