Treasure In The Kingdom Bro...Lonnie January 25, 2009 As Jesus was speaking to His congregation during the sermon on the mount, He begin to speak of a treasure that is often overlooked or counted as being behind worldly things. Mt. 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, where thieves do not break through and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Jesus is making it clear that the treasures of this life does not bring happiness, not are they lasting. There are treasures that accompany materialism, and then there are those that accompany grace. We must decide each day the type of treasure that we are laying up, and at the end of that day, where can they be found? Jesus makes it plain in His sermon, that the treasures of this world are temporary, and the ones laid up in heaven are eternal. Jesus says that if we will seek His kingdom and His righteousness, everything else will be given to us. Jesus wants man to understand that there is more at stake than, the here and now, or the eat, drink, and be merry theory. Man’s soul is in jeopardy, and maybe that is why Jesus would say: ‘If a man gained the whole world, and lose his soul, what would he give in exchange?" Jesus said: "he that lays up treasures for himself is not rich toward God." God is concerned about man’s future, he wants control over his eternal destiny. Man can be rich in material things, and yet be poor in the eyes of God. The rich man and Lazarus are two good examples, of materialism and spiritualism. I can only imagine the security precautions that most people would take today after given the choice, to be rich in the Lord, or to be rich in the world. I think that it would go without saying, the answer can be found in the places where we are spending our money, and our time. To whom have we entrusted our treasures? Will they be safe forever, or would a natural disaster, or a thief threaten them? Be sure to put your treasures in God’s security box, in heaven. |
