Be Still, My Soul

When Jehoshaphat was king over Judah. the children of Moab, the children of Ammon, and others of the Ammonites came up against Jehoshaphat. He was told there was coming a great multitude up against them from beyond the sea on this side of Syria. Jehoshaphat feared and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast through-out all Judah. Jehoshaphat stood in the midst of the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, and sought the Lord God of their fathers. He stated that these people were spared the wrath of God when Israel went in to possess the land of Canaan, but now they were coming up against Judah. “Wilt thou not judge them?” Jehoshaphat said that they had no power against this great company of invaders, neither did they know what they could do. But God said, (2 Chronicles 20:17) “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:20) “And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”

Now, if this was good for Judah, it should be good enough for us and the battles we encounter in these modern days of life. We have to face many obstacles of life but, God will fight our battles for we belong to him. He told Jehoshaphat, “Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” When you are faced with an overwhelming situation, remember, the battle belongs to God.
