Let Us Reason Together

The word of God found in the first chapter of Isaiah makes the statement that “though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” When we consider the colors, scarlet and crimson, we realize that they both are a form of red. They both require a special method of dying to arrive at this very unique color.  The idea though is not so much concerning the color as it is concerning the stain or the permanence of the color. No matter how much the garment is worn, how much the garment is washed, it cannot be removed. It is a fixed or fast. After many types of washings, the color may be faded somewhat, but it is still there.

So it is with sin and this scripture is used to represent the permanency of sins of the heart. No effort of man can wash out the stain of sin in a person’s heart. No special rites, no tears of sorrow, no sacrifice will be sufficient to take them away. They are so deep and fixed within the heart as the color scarlet is within the cloth, that only the power of the Almighty can remove them.

But praise God who can remove the stain of sin by the blood of Jesus. Isn’t that ironic, the stain of sin, scarlet, red like crimson, can be removed by the red blood of Jesus. And once the blood is applied, the stain is completely removed to appear as white as the snow. As a blanket of snow covers the earth and its imperfections, so does the blood of Christ cover your sins, as though you had no sin. Or as illustrated in the case of wool, crimson, used to go deep within the fabric, is removed as though the wool had never been dyed or colored.

Yes, let us reason together. Let us determine within our heart that we no longer have to be stained with sin. It can be removed by the blood of Jesus.
