My Rock, My Salvation (Psalms 18:2) “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” Truly God is our rock, our fortress, our deliverer. When I think of the When you refer to the term rock, I think of the foundation we are told to build upon. That foundation is Christ. No surer foundation can be built than that which is built upon Jesus Christ. If we are not building on Christ, we are building on sinking sand. For our salvation, the foundation comes first and Jesus Christ has to be that foundation.
After the death of King David, Solomon was anointed king and his first duty was the construction of a temple. The foundation was of first importance, (1 Kings 5:17) and the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house. The temple was built to stand for many, many years, so no expense was too great for the foundation.
We are told in the scriptures that we are the house of God. God no longer dwells in temples made by hand, but dwells in men and women who have accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour, the true foundation. We are told that coming to Christ is like: (Luke 6:48)...a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. Again, that rock is Christ. There is no surer foundation. Those that are not building on Christ are like the man that without a foundation, built a house upon the earth and when the stream did beat vehemently, immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
