Pastor Appreciation Ephesians 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Each servant mentioned here has a duty as illustrated in this passage. The term “pastor” at this particular time in church history, had not yet become an official office of the church. This term implies the nourishing of and the caring for God’s people. In other scriptures, the Greek word used is translated, shepherd or sheepherder. But regardless of the use of this term, the pastor has a great responsibility. For those sick and afflicted, it is their desire for prayers of their pastor on their behalf. For the dying saint, or at the passing of a loved one, the pastor must provide words of comfort. The pastor must minister the word of God to the congregation in his care on Sunday morning. He must urge all under his voice to accept Christ as their savior, and to council those troubled with the cares of life. A pastor is not ashamed to uphold God’s truths, to obey His commands faithfully, to set the example for those closest to him. The pastor is there to direct the affairs of the church, and to urge the church to reach out to a lost and dying world in behalf of Christ. The pastor needs our prayers on his behalf that he might have the strength to meet these responsibilities. It should be the desire of all under his care that appreciation is shown for this one who has accepted this call of service. Bro. Bill Moseley |
